THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.45 g, 1 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing taenia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΔIONYΣOY - ΣΩTHPOΣ / MAPΩNITΩN Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; chlamys draped over his left arm; to inner right and left, monograms. Schönert-Geiss 1093.1 (this coin, V37/R107). SNG Copenhagen 637. Beautifully toned and of unusually attractive, early style. The reverse struck from a slightly worn die and with light doubling and minor traces of overstriking (?), otherwise, about extremely fine.
